The 1er and 7ieme arrondissements are neighbors, but you’ll have to walk pretty far along the Quay D’Orsay or the Quai Jacques Chirac to get from one to the other. Both bridges take an equal amount of time. If you’re not in a rush this is a totally doable walk, but I would avoid it if you’re on a time crunch.
The walk from The Louvre to the Eiffel Tower is 2.17 miles (3.5km) so especially when it gets very hot in Paris during the summer, this will be a pretty sweaty and uncomfortable walk. It will be a pretty flat walk, and there will be a lot of benches along the road if you get tired. So if you’re not in a rush and you want to enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Seine, then go for it!
Something to note about The Louvre: there’s no air conditoining so in the summer, prepare to sweat! Bring deodorant with you and avail yourself of The Louvre’s many bathrooms to wash up because you’ll be walking a lot and there are always lots of people around so it just adds to the mugginess.

But the Paris bus system is easy to navigate. They tell you on a board in the bus what the upcoming stop is. Get out of The Louvre at Rue du Rivoli. You’re going to cross to the other side of Rue du Rivoli and take the stop for bus 72 between Place du Palais Royal and Rue de Rohan. The stop is before the art gallery next to Rue de Rohan.
Once you’re on the bus, it’s 10 stops and you’ll get off at Le Notre stop. From Le Notre, you will walk “backwards” (meaning in the direction the bus just came from) to Pont D’Iena. Cross the bridge and you’ll be at the entrance to the Eiffel Tower. When you get off the bus, it will be impossible if you do a 360 tour to get lost at that point. Can you see Eiffel Tower and Louvre in one day?
Yes, if you do a quick tour of The Louvre — and I mean quick because it’s a giantic museum with 35,000 artworks on display that stretches several city blocks. So understand that you’ll be hustling to see even the greatest hits and you’ll need a good 3-4 hours minimum. You could get through The Louvre and see the Eiffel Tower at night, as they have late ticket times. If you want more information about booking tickets to The Louvre in advance, that post has everything you’ll want to know.
If you want to take your time in The Louvre, then you definitely won’t make it to the Eiffel Tower. I’ve been to The Louvre twice in my life and both of those times, I’ve never finished the entire museum despite being there from open to close.
For a leisurely one-day itinerary in Paris, I’d recommend starting at Musée de L’Orangerie, which you can do in two hours in the morning. You’ll get to see Monet’s waterlillies and several excellent pieces of Impressionist art.
Then, walking across the bridge, you’ll get to the Musée D’Orsay, which you can do in the afternoon. It’s a 20-minute walk, 30-minutes if like me you’re disabled and you walk slow and stop a lot.
Finally, take a cab or the bus over to the Eiffel Tower for dinner and one of the best views in the entire world.
If you want one of the best-hidden views of the tower in the city, you need to stop by Cité de L’Architecture’s third floor. You’ll get a direct, unobstructed view at an elevation through the window. It’s one of the best views of the tower in the city and so quiet as it’s not a heavily frequented museum.

This is one of my favorite artworks at The Louvre, in the French sculpture gallery. Some of France’s best early modern scuptures can be found at The Louvre!
Things to do between the Eiffel Tower and The Louvre
I would not recommend doing anything between the two landmarks except for stopping for food if you’re serious about seeing The Louvre and not just taking a stroll past the Mona Lisa and Nike of Samothrace. That said, there are plenty of options. Attractions between the The Louvre and the Eiffel Tower include:
- Musée du Quai Branly
- Musée D’Oray
- Musée D’Art Moderne
- Petit Palais
- Tuileries gardens
- Musée de L’Orangerie
- Bateaux mouches
- Palais Galliera
What are some good cafes between the Eiffel Tower and Louvre?
Because both The Louvre and the Eiffel Tower are attractions located along the Seine river, you’ll have many cafés to choose from. A few of my personal favorites are:
- Le Nemours
- Café Des Tuileries
- La Cerrame De La Regalade
- Café Jacques
Any of these will have a great view of The Seine and serve up lovely French pastries and lunches. I personally am a fan of a ham & emmental sandwich for lunch. I don’t like ham usually in North America, but the way the French prepare their ham makes for a very lovely meal on a baguette!

If you’re afraid of heights, just seeing the Eiffel Tower from the ground even is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you’re an American tourist who’s been to Las Vegas, you really can’t imagine the half scale of the Paris-themed casino’s Eiffel Tower scaled up without seeing it in person. It is magnificent.
